If there's one major lesson that every driver should know, it's how to change a tire. You never know when it could happen to you - or when you could be the helpful passenger there to save the day.
How To Change A Tire
EVERY CAR IS DIFFERENT, BUT HERE IS A GENERAL GUIDE ON HOW TO CHANGE A TIRE:
- Slowly, find a safe spot to pull over, and apply your parking brake.
- Turn on your hazard lights to alert other cars around you of the situation.
- Get out the jack, wrench, and spare tire from your trunk - all of which you should have stashed ahead of time!
- Loosen the lug nuts with the wrench, but don't remove them entirely.
- Using the jack, lift the vehicle off of the ground by about six inches.
- Now, remove the lug nuts entirely as well as the tire.
- Place the spare tire in its new spot.
- Lightly put on the lug nuts, but don't secure them tightly just yet.
- Lower the car back down, and remove the jack from underneath.
- Now, make sure that the lug nuts are tightened, adjusting one at a time until they are equally as tight as possible.
- Lastly, put your flat tire and tools back in your car. Please don't leave your flat tire on the road for someone else to clean!Â
