Do you want your vehicle to last as long as possible? If so, you must make sure you take good care of it. We are Phil Wright Autoplex, and we are proud to provide you with access to one of the top service centers in the local area. By taking care of your vehicle, you can add valuable years to its life, meaning that you may not have to purchase another car for a long time. Two of the most important tasks that you need to complete are a tire rotation and a wheel alignment.

Even though a lot of people believe these two tasks are the same, that is not the case. What are the differences between them?

What Is a Tire Rotation?

A tire rotation refers to the process of moving the tires from the back of your vehicle to the front of your vehicle and vice versa. This is important because the tires at the front of your vehicle do not wear at the same rate as the tires at the back of your vehicle.

Gradually, the treads on your tires will start to get worn down. When this happens, your handling might be affected. Eventually, the treads on your tires will get so worn down that you will need to replace the tires, but you need the treads on your tires to wear evenly. Otherwise, your handling could be adversely affected, and you may have to change your tires before you normally would, costing you extra money.

There is a chance that you may not have to rotate your tires as often if your vehicle is 4-wheel drive but you still need to pay attention to your tires. Rotating your tires is important because it can maximize your gas mileage and the lifespan of your tires. Reach out to our service center to get your tires rotated from time to time.

What Is a Wheel Alignment?

Even though we often perform a wheel alignment at the same time as a tire rotation, these two tasks are not identical. A wheel alignment refers to the process of making sure that all of your wheels are pointed in the same direction. For example, when you're steering column is perfectly straight, you expect all of your tires to be pointed straight down the road.

For a variety of reasons, there are situations where your wheels might get out of alignment. This could happen gradually depending on your driving style, or you may hit a curb with one of your wheels. We can perform a wheel alignment to make sure your wheels are pointed in the same direction. This is critical for making sure your car handles appropriately and your tires wear appropriately.

If you feel like your vehicle is pulling to one side or the other, you may need to get your wheels aligned. We can help you with that.

How Often Should These Tasks Be Completed?

In general, you should complete these tasks approximately once per year or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. If your vehicle is 4-wheel drive, you may not need to get these tasks completed as often, but we can still work with you to make sure your vehicle is operating exactly as expected. You should not neglect these tasks because you want your vehicle to handle well, maximize its gas mileage, and extend the lifespan of your tires.
